The performance of the building enclosure in the modern construction industry is critical to the success of a project. Much of this performance has to do with managing moisture in various forms. This session will focus on moisture management in four distinct approaches: Deflection, Drainage, Drying, and Durability. By addressing each strategy independently, design and building professionals are able to ensure that the enclosure they are designing and constructing is safe, durable, and sustainable. This session will discuss moisture sources, material options, and general strategies for appropriately controlling the impact that moisture has on the built environment.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify the enclosure features that help to deflect bulk water away from building assemblies in order to prevent moisture intrusion.
- Analyze the components in the enclosure systems that aid in draining intruding moisture down vertical surfaces and ultimately away from the overall enclosure.
- Discuss the concepts behind drying potential in order to prevent material and system degradation, mold growth, and occupant comfort issues.
- Examine the role that material selection has on the overall durability of the building enclosure and the impact this durability has on the sustainability of the building.

Cancellations must be received in writing by sending an email to cancellations@paconstructioncodesacademy.org . Refunds will be determined by the date of the fax or email. A cancellation received less than 10 business days of the session you are registered for, is subject to a $50 administrative fee and any PayPal transactional fees. Those who cancel within 2 business days of the session date or do not attend, forfeit the full registration fee and if unpaid, will be invoiced. Credit toward future PCCA courses may be accepted upon approval from the PCCA administrator; substitutions may be accepted.
