Process makes perfect. Technical knowledge of building science and energy efficiency is important but having a process for design, construction, and inspections is at least as important for creating affordable, comfortable, energy-efficient homes. In today’s hectic work environment and without a clear process, few people can ensure important energy code details have been incorporated into construction documents or installed in the field.
This half-day training program will provide a strategy for compliance and enforcement of 2015 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC), including obtaining or including required details on construction documents, initiating required inspections, and implementing and reviewing third-party testing verification forms. The presentation will focus on key aspects of the 2015 IECC and related IRC requirements including mandatory blower door testing, air barrier and insulation inspections, whole-house ventilation, duct leakage testing, and HVAC equipment sizing. The program will also clarify how the energy code applies to additions, alterations, and changes of occupancy and identify areas where interpretation decisions must be made by building departments.
Learning objectives:
Attendees will be able to…
- Implement a process for energy code enforcement including how to collect documentation from third-party energy testing professionals.
- Determine minimum whole-house ventilation rates and verify fan system compliance.
- Ensure that HVAC equipment has been properly sized and forced air distribution systems operate efficiently.
- Understand how the energy code applies to common projects involving existing residential buildings.
