Intended audience: Code officials, design professionals, commercial builders/developers
Description: This session will begin with an overview of the benefits of energy code compliance and enforcement, including reduced energy costs, greenhouse gas emissions, and energy resilience. The program will highlight key differences between the 2009 and 2015 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC), along with a focus on measures that have been found to have low compliance rates, high energy impacts, or a combination of both. Coverage of building envelope requirements will include new prescriptive elements, proper insulation installation, and installer certification of blown-in or sprayed insulation. For mechanical systems, one element of focus will be commercial kitchens, including demand-controlled and heat recovery exhaust systems, as restaurants tend to have very high energy use intensities compared to other building types. In addition, mechanical systems topics will include the relationship between minimum ventilation requirements in the International Mechanical Code (IMC) and the energy code’s efforts to minimize the energy use. The material will be presented alongside one or more COMcheck certificates and a commercial energy code checklist to aid designers and code officials in their work.

- Identify improper insulation installation and lack of R-value documentation for blown or sprayed insulation.
- Determine energy code compliance for large commercial kitchen exhaust systems.
- Identify when and where demand control and energy recovery ventilation is required

A cancellation received less than 10 business days of the session you are registered for, is subject to a $20 processing fee for refunds. Those who cancel within 2 business days of the session date or do not attend, forfeit the full registration fee and if unpaid, will be invoiced. Credit toward future PCCA courses may be accepted upon approval from the PCCA administrator; substitutions may be accepted.
