ACC 101 is designed for code officials, inspectors, contractors, and design professionals, but open to any interested party. This two-day course provides a comprehensive overview of accessibility provisions under the Uniform Construction Code, scoping requirements outlined in the International Building Code (IBC), and the technical standards of the ICC/ANSI A117.1. Practice exams are included at the end of each day to help students retain information and prepare for the Accessibility Inspector/Plans Examiner test. After attending this course, you will:
- Be able to find accessibility provisions in Chapter 11 of the IBC, in the IEBC and ANSI A117.1 – 2009 Standard.
- Better understand how to establish the “scoping requirements” for accessibility, from which the technical requirements will flow.
- Have been exposed to the content material that is likely to be encountered on the exam for Accessibility Plans Examiners/Inspectors.
- Understand the priority that is placed upon understanding and enforcing accessibility provisions in Pennsylvania.
- Be able to discuss some of the most common errors that are made when reviewing plans and performing inspections for accessibility compliance.
ACC 101 Scoping and Technical Building Blocks for Accessibility - Day 1
This one day program will feature all of the scoping provisions for accessibility code enforcement in Pennsylvania, from Chapters 3, 10, 11 and Appendix E in the 2015 IBC plus critical information on how accessibility and not the ADA is enforceable by building code officials. The balance of this program will look at the technical building blocks contained in the 2009 ICC/ANSI 117.1 Standard, which details HOW to make something accessible once scoping determines that it MUST be accessible. Chapters 1-4 of the ANSI standard will be addressed.
ACC 101 Beyond Scoping and Building Blocks for Accessibility - Day 2
This one day program builds on the scoping provisions for accessibility in Pennsylvania and the technical building blocks of the ICC/ANSI 117.1 standard. This program will address more complex technical criteria for complying with accessibility requirements, once scoped, including: Parking, Plumbing fixtures, Toilet and Bathing Spaces, Elevators and Lifts, Signage, Special Spaces, furnishings and Equipment. Also covered will be laundry equipment and spaces, kitchens and kitchenettes, Accessible, Type A and Type B living spaces and finally, recreational and sports facilities.
